Who We Are & What We Do

E/CRC Home of SPPS Software for Erosion-Corrosion Calculations

The E/CRC is funded by a group of major oil and gas production related companies from around the world. The goal of the Center is to conduct experiments, gather data, and do computational modeling to provide guidelines, in the form of user friendly software, for gas and oil production to alleviate problems of Erosion, Corrosion and Erosion-Corrosion.

All of the research conducted at Erosion/Corrosion Research Center (E/CRC) is aimed at developing/improving 4 User Friendly computer programs:

1) the first is for erosion calculations and called Sand Production Pipe Saver or SPPS, Calculates erosion of elbows, plug tee, straight pipe, contractions and expansions

2) the second is for CO2 corrosion calculations and called Sweet Production Pipe Saver or SPPS-CO2

3) the third is SPPS:E-C for combined sand erosion-CO2 corrosion calculations with an inhibitor

4) the forth is a program for calculating erosion as a result of liquid droplet impact (with and w/out sand)

Below is a brief description of benefits of joining E/CRC and costs for membership and updating SPPS programs.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

The benefits include use of the 4 user Friendly SPPS software programs. Also new member companies would benefit from the 35 years of research experience in this area without paying for it. In addition, with current 17 members and side projects that we do , your company pay 1/20 th of the cost or 5% and get 100 % of the results and use of the programs for that year. Members use the 3 SPPS programs and the E/CRC work is directed at constantly upgrading the programs. Only members use the programs and get the upgrades.

There are 2 meetings each year where we present the results of the studies and the upgrades of the SPPS software programs. Members also meet other members and discuss common problems in the Operators’ Forum. A company can send more than one member to the meetings.

We can also do specially requested tests or analyses for members within the capabilities of the equipment and analysis. Sometimes special equipment or software is built for a member. Costs for special items are paid by the member company requesting the work.

WHAT ARE THE COSTS?

The Erosion/Corrosion Research Center JIP is open to new members.

The costs for joining the E/CRC for the first year is US $31,500 plus a one-time equipment fee of US$ 22,000. Thus, for the first year, the cost is US $53,500. Each year after that is currently US$ 31,500.
